Salzburg has the lowest unemployment rate in all of Austria
12,479 people were registered as unemployed in the state of Salzburg in December, 12,542 fewer than a year ago (-50.1 percent) and still 378 fewer than in 2019, even before the corona crisis (-2.9). 1906 people were in training courses (-0.8 percent).
With an unemployment rate of 4.6 percent (provisional estimates, exact data are available as always in the middle of the month) Salzburg has the lowest value in Austria, of Tyrol (4.7 percent). The rate across Austria is 8.1 percent.
Unemployment in the districts is also compared to the previous year – namely between minus 34.1 percent (City of Salzburg and Flachgau) and minus 70.5 percent (Pinzgau). Compared to 2019 there is an increase of 20.7 percent in Pinzgau and 7.1 percent in Lungau. In all other districts the values are below those of the pre-crisis period.
The development of long-term unemployment shows a very positive picture: In September 2021 there was an increase of 6.7 percent compared to 2020, so this value has gradually gone into the red since then: In December it was already minus 31 percent, that are 573 fewer long-term unemployed people.
“This is where the success of the AMS springboard campaign becomes visible: through comprehensive advice and support, with the focus on the individual situation of each program participant, we have succeeded in helping people affected by long-term unemployment with grants to find employment,” said AMS regional manager Jacqueline Beyer.
Youth unemployment (under 25 years of age) fell by 52.3 percent to 1,512 people (compared to 2019: minus 9.4 percent). “Despite the many difficulties encountered in combating the pandemic and the associated effects on the labor market, unemployment is below that of December 2019. All in all, we can look forward to the new year very strongly.
