With a statue of a naked teenager: Sculptor Thomas Welti nominated for the Art Innsbruck Art Prize
Thomas Welti, who grew up in Baden, belongs to the narrow circle of artists who are eligible for the «Art Innsbruck» anniversary art prize.
The international fair for contemporary art “Art Innsbruck” nominated Thomas Welti from Baden for its anniversary art award. Welti, born in 1955, was nominated for his work of art «Serena». This is a bronze statue of a naked, female teenager, with headphones and smartphone. The art fair was held for the 25th time in 2021.
The work of art was modeled in clay by Welti and then cast in bronze. Of course, it could also be presented without the electronic items, writes the artist.
The figure is also “a typical witness of our world”. During the first presentation at Art Innsbruck, “Serena” thrilled and fascinated visitors. Thomas Welti was then nominated for the art prize from a total of 700 exhibiting artists at the fair. In addition to Welti, eight other artists were nominated. In the end, the award went to the German artist Dieter Oberdorf in the sculpture category. A total of four artists were honored, the first winner was the Austrian Jürgen Norbert Fux.
For 25 years in Tuscany
The sculptor and sculptor Welti grew up in Baden. From 1993 he studied sculpture at the Zurich School of Design and then completed various advanced training courses in sculpture. Welti left Baden with his family 25 years ago and opened his own ceramic studio in Ghizzano di Peccioli in 1996, not far from the city of Pisa in Tuscany.
The main theme of his work is the human body, especially the female nude, in its slightly abstract representation. Welti also holds numerous exhibitions in Switzerland and abroad. He also teaches artists in the field of three-dimensional design.
