Sports, Shooting | Oda was full of excitement when she was to represent Norway:
– It is very big and fun to be allowed to participate and represent Norway.
This is what 18-year-old Oda Flikkerud said after she was in Budapest and represented her country in the big international convention Hungarian Open at the end of November.
Oda surprised a lot during the shooters’ championship meeting at Elverum back in August, and she was on her lips after shooting 149 out of 150 possible points on the first 15 shots. It was going to be an evening where shooter Norway really got its eyes open for the northerners.
Back abroad
The 18-year-old made her debut abroad already as a 16-year-old, when she was in Luxembourg and competed – and was a few weeks ago back abroad where she enjoys competing.
– In Luxembourg was the first time I competed abroad, but I am still new to competitions abroad and I think it is exciting to compete against other nations, Oda said to Glåmdalen.
– It was very fun, especially considering that there has not been an opportunity for so many trips abroad lately, she says about the participation in the big convention in Hungary.
– Extra excitement
Oda is more used to shooting at home in Norway, but when she first travels to represent Norway abroad, she admits that the tensions can take over a bit. That was also partly the case when she was in Budapest.
– It’s a different feeling when you get there, and there is a bit of excitement in addition to doing it extra well. On the other hand, I tried to convince myself that it was like a normal competition and that I should shoot as usual.
She adds:
– The results were not quite as I expected. I have shot better at conventions in Norway, but as I said, there are other emotions in the game and it is easy to lose focus, in addition to the fact that I had some technical problems with the stock market. But on the last day of competition, I had an upswing, says Nordodølingen.
– Must keep a cool head
Oda Flikkerud also does her case well in the branches of DFS (The voluntary shooting service), and combines it with rifle shooting within the Norwegian Shooting Federation. Right now she is trying to get involved as much as possible.
– I do my best to be part of both. Although it is mostly in NSF, I train DFS regularly and participate in a number of conventions.
– What is the most important lesson you learned in Hungary?
– To keep a cool head when things do not go the way I envision and have full focus all the way, Oda says.
She says that she brings with her important experiences from the convention in Budapest, and despite the fact that she did not deliver results that she herself wanted, the 18-year-old is inspired to continue pursuing such competitions.
– Absolutely. Even though it was not my best result, it almost motivates me more to come back and really show what I can do. It has been a good experience with new experiences and I look forward to further competitions, Oda told Glåmdalen.
Nice – despite restrictions
Oda is now in his third and final year at NTG Kongsvinger – on the shooting line. She says that she thrives well, and is happy that the choice fell on NTG.
She looks back positively on the Hungary trip, which she traveled with several other young national team shooters – even though there were coronary restrictions.
– I travel with the rest of the national shooting team young. It was a very nice trip despite some coronary restrictions that we had to deal with, says Oda.
These days, a new trip abroad awaits Oda, as she travels to Luxembourg – before moving on to Sweden and competing just over the New Year.
