Essential for survival: form the rescue alley! – News Munich
ADAC: If you ignore them, you face high penalties
After an accident, every minute counts. It is all the more important that the police, ambulance or fire brigade come quickly and unhindered to the scene of the accident and help accident victims. The ADAC points out that. On motorways or multi-lane roads out of town, a lane for emergency vehicles must be created when the traffic is only traveling at walking pace. If you are on the left lane, you have to turn left. On all other lanes you have to give way to the right in order to create the necessary space for the emergency vehicles.
If the vehicles are already dying close together, there is hardly any possibility of making room for the emergency vehicles in time. Only police and emergency vehicles, fire fighters, emergency doctors and ambulances as well as rescue and towing vehicles are allowed to enter the rescue lane. Passing through is taboo for everyone else. The penalties have now been increased to 200 euros, two points in Flensburg and a month’s driving ban if an emergency lane is not formed.
Drivers are only allowed to use the hard shoulder if they are asked to do so by the police or if there is no other possibility of creating an emergency lane due to lack of space.
The knowledge of motorists about the formation of the emergency lane has improved in the last few years: As a survey conducted by the ADAC among its members in 2020 has shown, 84 percent said at the time. In 2018, the war only dies 73 percent. The ADAC sees the improved driver knowledge as a success of the intensive awareness and information campaigns of the past few years.
