According to a survey by the consulting firm Deloitte among Swiss people, e-voting is supported by 84% of the population.
The coronavirus pandemic is increasingly seen as a catalyst for digitization, Deloitte wrote in a survey on Tuesday. A clear majority of respondents would like state authorities and non-private companies to offer standardized services across Switzerland. Proponents of e-voting cited simplicity (68%) and time savings (72%) as advantages. They also appreciated the flexibility in terms of location (72%) and time (75%).
According to the survey, 38% of respondents have developed a greater affinity for online government services. At the same time, 21% say their trust in e-government has declined during the pandemic, much more than in last year’s Deloitte survey (7%). A growing number are concerned about risk, especially cybersecurity and privacy.
As in the previous year, a clear majority of 73 percent would like the services of the authorities to be standardized across Switzerland and 86 percent want digital services to be offered by a state body and not by private companies. Only 8% saw no added value in e-governance.
A clear majority of those surveyed also wanted new services: 84% said they wanted to order their passports or ID cards entirely via a digital platform.
Deloitte carried out the survey in September 2021 among 1,000 people between the ages of 18 and 81 from urban and rural areas in German and French-speaking Switzerland.
