The head of the NOC Slovenia mission wants the 2022 Winter Olympics
Winter athletes from Slovenia have been working hard to improve their skills for the upcoming 2022 Winter Olympics. In an interview with CGTN Sports Scene, he expressed expectations for Beijing 2022.
Slovenia, as an alpine country with a long skiing tradition, aims high. Damjan believes that the Slovenian ski jumping team has the most chances for medals at the Games. He also praised the men’s ski jumping team and the alpine skiing team, which also performed well this season.
“If we get two medals, we will be satisfied. But if more, we can be happy,” Damjan said.
Slovenia is a country with hundreds of top athletes, including basketball superstar Luka Dončić and two-time Tour de France winner Tadej Pogačar. And the country has a long history in winter sports as well, especially in skiing. But as a small country with only two million people, funding is usually the biggest problem. Damjan admitted that given the economic situation, the state finds it difficult to support so many top athletes.
Damjan said that his country is always trying to be the best in all respects. The Slovenian official expressed expectations in a conversation about the upcoming games in Beijing.
“I think everything is going great. I’ve seen some videos about the venues and they’re amazing,” Damjan said. He finds the National Ski Jumping Center to be extremely amazing and wants to see the venues with his own eyes and take some photos to present to the world.
