“Vitoria has an even greater space to claim in football and sport”
Vitória president Miguel Pinto Lisboa left a message of optimism to fans in the traditional Christmas message, revealed on the club’s social networks.
In the text shared by the club, it can be read:
“As in society and in the economy, also in sport we live in a time in which hope and uncertainty still coexist. The past year had in equal doses these apparently incompatible ingredients, but which coexist in a time strongly marked by a pandemic that is unique in the history of Vitória and in the lives of all its partners and fans.
Even so, we celebrate signs of recovery that are so longed for and that are so important to the day-to-day of our club. Vitória Sport Clube was at the forefront in the battle for the return of the public to the stadiums, understood as fundamental for the activity, not only from a financial perspective, but above all to safeguard a game whose popular dimension is the main reason for its universality. .
The presence of supporters in the stadiums was a great achievement of 2021, although conditioned by a bureaucratic process that our club also fought, playing the role that Vitória must have in favor of the great issues of football and sport. The end of the Adept Card was an important collective step, but it does not exhaust the various concerns that the sector is going through and that have mobilized us over the months.
Professional football in Portugal faces enormous challenges, but which precedes a unique and unrepeatable opportunity. The process with a view to centralizing television rights, the introduction of measures to increase the sector’s fiscal protection, the long-delayed change in sports insurance and the necessary debate around betting revenues are structuring themes for the sustainability and growth of football professional and that Vitória has defended in its own venues.
Vitória’s institutional strength also comes from its history and popular expression. Dimensions that in 2022 must be reinforced. Thus, 100 years of history are acquired, which also mobilize us all, as a collective, for a cycle that at all levels is consistent with the greatness of the club and, above all, with its future ambitions.
A Victory, as always, from everyone and for everyone. Understanding their obligations, reinforced in this time, to guarantee the practice of sports for all generations, from the youngest to the seniors. A victory of the modalities, inclusive, but without losing sight that their responsibilities towards the community are even more transversal. Social support is, for our club, a mission that we returned to in 2021, but which we realize will become even more pressing in the times to come.
Vitória has an even greater space to claim in football and sport. We are certain that, with everyone’s strength, we will be able to turn this moment into an opportunity, worthy of a centenary of enormous wealth, but one that calls us to a new year full of joy, on and off the field.”
