Portugal with 151 municipalities above a very high risk of infection
Portugal currently has 151 municipalities at very high and extreme risk of infection by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, 18 more than in the previous week, indicated this Friday by the Directorate-General for Health (DGS).
The number of councils at risk has extended to 21 this week.
The list of municipalities with more than 960 cases of infection per 100,000 inhabitants in the last 14 days includes Fundão, Golegã, Guarda, Lisbon, Loulé, Machico, Monção, Nisa, Oeiras, Ourém, Funchal, Ponte da Barca, Porto, Porto Santo , São Brás de Alportel, São João da Madeira, Sertã, Soure, Sousel, Tomar and Vila Nova e Paiva.
The counties at very high risk increased this week to 18 more, look for 130 counties now, with an incidence between 480 and 959.9 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.

In addition to the 151 municipalities above the very high risk, there are currently 83 municipalities with a 14-day cumulative incidence rate between 240 and 479.9 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, that is, at the high risk level.
With an incidence between 120 and 239.9 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, there are currently 32 municipalities.
The only Portuguese municipalities with processing less than 20 cases per 100,000 inhabitants are now Freixo de Espada à Cinta e Corvo, which did not register any new cases in the last 14 days.
In the explanatory note of the data by municipality, published in the epidemiological bulletin of the DGS, it is mentioned that the cumulative occurrence “corresponds to the quotient between the number of new confirmed cases in the 14 days prior to the moment of analysis and the estimated resident population”.
Portugal now registers 11 more deaths associated with Covid-19 and 12,943 infections with the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, the highest number of new cases since January 29, indicates a Directorate-General for Health (DGS).
An increase at the national level, going to 630.8 cases per 100 thousand inhabitants, and the transmissibility index (Rt) rose to 1.11.
In Portugal, since March 2020, 18,851 people have died and 1,266,037 cases of infection have been recorded, according to data from the General Directorate of Health.
A new variant, an Omicron, classified as concerned by the World Health Organization (WHO), has been detected in southern Africa, but since the South African health authorities raised the alert on 24 November, infections have been reported in at least 89 countries from all continents, including Portugal.
