collections organized in Caen between Christmas and New Year to deal with very low stocks
The Normans are called upon to donate blood! The French Blood Establishment has been saying it and repeating it for months, the reserves are at their lowest. A dangerous shortage that has worsened since the start of the health crisis. To attract the most donors, EFS is increasing the number of collection meetings.
Friday, December 24, a few hours before Christmas Eve, its agents were installed in the town hall of Caen. For Patrick Minvielle, doctor at the EFS, stocks must be replenished quickly because the situation is becoming worrying. “For several months now, we have had difficulty maintaining supplies so we try every day to be present at the meeting”, he explains. According to him the finding is overwhelming, “The goal for optimal functioning is to have twelve days of stocks of blood products and currently we are regionally at seven days.”
Decline in collection sites since the start of the pandemic
The reasons for this drop in the number of donors are multiple for the doctor, Patrick Minvielle. “We have collections that are made in schools, universities or companies that can no longer be done because of health measures”, he says. According to him, these campaigns allow “maintain a minimum but it is below what it requires”.
Patrick Minvielle calls on the inhabitants of Caen and the region to come and give during this Christmas period. Friday December 24 they were some to have registered on the internet to donate blood. “It’s nice to do it on December 24th, there is a symbolism, it’s to give a gift”, says Thiphaine who chose to make her first blood donation a few hours before waking up.
Other collections are planned in Caen by the end of the year. he stays reservation slots from Monday, December 27 from 9 a.m. The EFS will also be mobilized on December 31 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. All the information to register is on the EFS website.
