CoV barriers: “Markets lost for Salzburg”
politics
The new travel regulations and hurdles for four European countries – from which loyal guests for the city and state of Salzburg would come – cause horror in the economy. The domestic winter tourism is threatened again with massive failures and high losses. Industry representatives are convinced of this.
The federal government declared the Netherlands, Great Britain, Denmark and Norway to be “virus variant areas” on Wednesday. This makes it much more difficult to enter Austria from these countries.
Obstacles, barriers, regulations
In the future, normal 2-G verification will no longer be sufficient for the four countries. Instead, when travelers have a booster vaccination plus a negative PCR test. Without the booster vaccination Wann & Die from Denmark, Norway, the Netherlands and Great Britain in a ten-day mandatory quarantine. The local tourists therefore expect massive failures.
“Lost markets for Salzburg”
Albert Ebner, Head of Tourism Department in the Salzburg Chamber of Commerce, expects a possible wave of cancellation. The affected markets are probably lost for Salzburg for this season.
The management of Salzburg Airport reacts in a similar way. In January alone, more than half of all flights come from the countries that have now been declared “virus variant areas”. A total of 420 flights could be canceled, says airport spokesman Alexander Klaus – the vast majority to and from Great Britain. The new entry requirements apply from December 25th – that is, from Saturday.
