Portugal is in the top ten of the rise in house prices
Living in large cities is increasingly unaffordable due to the rise in real estate and national cities are a reflection of this. Globalization is affecting the market, with more and more investment by companies, funds and capital in buildings in large urban centers. And purchasing power is more influenced by the degree of urbanization than by the distance to the coast.
It is increasingly expensive to live in big cities, according to successive rankings. The cost of living, by the Mercer consultancy, points out that Lisbon is the 83rd most expensive city in the world for international workers, a rise of 23 places which is not unrelated to the increase in real estate, goods and services. Last year, the Economist Intelligence Unit pointed out that a Portuguese capital was the 80th most expensive city in the world to live.
But a lot of other data that cross over when doing math. According to the International Monetary Fund, for example, Portugal was the eighth country in the world where house prices rose the most last year. Data from the National Statistics Institute (INE) show that Lisbon is the county in the country where it is most expensive to rent, followed by Cascais, Oeiras, Amadora and Porto. A few days ago, INE also revealed that purchasing power is increasingly concentrated in urban centers.
