Just 6 minutes ago, a 3.0 magnitude earthquake struck near Pontarlier, Doubs, Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, France. The quake was recorded on the morning of Tuesday, December 21, 2021 at 9:56 a.m. local time at a very shallow depth of 5 km below the surface.
The Swiss Seismological Service (SED) was the first to report the incident.
Our surveillance service identified a second report from the French Réseau National de Surveillance Sismique (RéNaSS) that listed the quake with a magnitude of 2.9.
According to the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but many people probably felt it to be a slight vibration in the area of the epicenter.
