Organic products of San Marino equivalent to those of the EU. The satisfaction of the Secretariat to the Territory: “Sector in strong growth”
The entire organic supply chain of San Marino is equivalent to that of the EU Member States and, consequently, San Marino products are now considered to be the same as those originating in or coming from the Member States.
This was announced by the Secretary of State for the Territory, the Environment and Agriculture in a note in which she communicated that the process of qualification of the 5 Control Bodies “Therefore, the Republic of San Marino officially operates in full production, processing and marketing of products as an EU member state”.
This is a consequence of the approval, by the EU – San Marino Cooperation Committee, of Decision no. 1/2020 of 28 May 2020, relating to the provisions applicable to the production and marketing of organic products, adopted in the framework ofCooperation and customs union agreement between the European Community and its Member States, on the one hand, and the Republic of San Marino, on the other, from 1992.
To date, explains the Secretariat, I am 45 operators subject to the organic regime of which 37 agricultural operators, the remaining in the field of processing and marketing.
Out of 2,500 hectares of cultivated area in San Marino, about 20% is under organic conditions.
“Numbers that are destined to grow – assures Stefano Canti’s Secretariat – because there are many interested operators who contact the UGRAA Office for information on the procedures”.
The same secretary assures to play “a central role for this development, to the public administration” given that, following the approval of the II requirement that established the position of expert in organic agriculture, on 20 September 2021 Dr. Loris Casali, a reference point for all those who are dealing with the sector to have clarity on the whole system of subjection.
Thanks also to the ever closer collaboration in agriculture – writes the Secretariat – with the Ministry for Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policies of the Italian Republic, we focused on training the technicians of the UGRAA Office. The TAIEX training course held to all UGRAA technicians by experts from the EU, MIPAF, the ER Region, Accredia and CREA is recent ”.
Finally, the Secretariat announces that “a Memorandum of Understanding between the reciprocal competent Italian and San Marino authorities appointed to supervise and control organic farming, aimed at helping the San Marino administration to fully implement the relevant European legislation, allowing UGRAA to benefit from the theoretical-practical training necessary to improve its inspection activity “.
