A few days before Christmas, the Covid-19 continue to circulate in the Calvados with some vigor. The latest incidence rate, ie the number of new positive cases over the last seven days per 100,000 inhabitants, is 249 for the week of December 10 to 16, 2021. National over the same period: 521. It is 287 in Normandy.
The west of Caen particularly affected
In Calvados, this incidence rate varies widely from one sector to another. While one should be wary of the interpretation that can be made for a village where a few cases are enough to make this indicator jump, it does appear that some sectors are more affected than others. Thus, the area to the west and south-west of Caen seems particularly marked by new cases over the past seven days. Tilly-sur-Seulles, Villy-Bocage and even Vieux have incidence rates of over 500, for example. In the agglomeration of Caen, this is also the case for Colombelles and Villons-les-Buissons.
Still above the departmental average, between 250 and 500, are Vire and Lisieux, as well as many smaller municipalities, especially in the north-west of the Caen region, such as Carpiquet, Rosel, Cairon or Saint-Contest. You can find the incidence rate in your town, using this map:
A higher rate at the 3rd and 4th waves
The incidence rate is between 150 and 250 for the largest city in the department, Caen, as for Deauville and the surrounding municipalities. At the end of December, the incidence rate in Calvados exceeded its peak for the third and fourth waves. It was at its peak at 237 on April 2, 2021 and at 221 on August 3.
