Three months after the start of the season, Corona hit the first National League teams violently and caused a mess in the schedule.
The first National League teams must be quarantined as a precaution. At Ambri and also in Geneva, several players tested positive for Corona. In both cases, the canton doctors will decide how to proceed on Monday.
But the news doesn’t bode well. At Ambri, 14 tests were positive. Thursday’s game in Bern has already been canceled. Ambri’s participation in the Spengler Cup is also at risk. Only if there is no case with the Omicron variant among them is there still a slight hope.
Numerous postponements for Geneva
“Perhaps a solution can be found,” says Marc Gianola, President of the Spengler Cup Organizing Committee. “Otherwise we have a plan with five teams in the drawer.”
Meanwhile, Ambri only missed one league game by the end of the year, autumn in Geneva is more demanding because Servette still has four games to play. The games against Freiburg (Sunday) and in Bern (Monday) have been postponed. It is not yet clear whether the Genevans will be able to play against Ajoie on Wednesday and in Zug on Thursday.
