The first weekend of the school holidays Christmas is still of utmost importance to traders. For some, it even determines their year, especially a week before December 25.
After complicated years between strikes, yellow vests, the Covid-19 epidemic, it was out of the question that traders in downtown Marseille would be further penalized by such events.
That is why the Prefect of Police of Bouches-du-Rhône banned demonstrations in the “hyper” shopping city center of Marseille on Saturday, December 18, 2021.
More precisely, “any demonstration or protest rally is prohibited between 8 am and 9 pm” in the sector which is delimited by the following roads : la Canebière, the quai des Belges, the cours Jean-Ballard, the rue Breteuil, the rue Saint-Jacques, the rue Bel-Air, the cours Lieutaud, the rue d’Aubagne, the rue des Récollettes to La Canebière . “
The prefect of Bouches-du-Rhône specifies that “the cited routes are not affected by this ban”.
Police forces will keep an eye on the grain
In case of demonstration or gathering, the organizers execute a sentence of six months imprisonment and a 7,500 euros fine. Participants will also face fines.
Of course, the police will be mobilized on the spot. The prefecture of Bouches-du-Rhône justifies this device by recent public order disturbances, which have disturbed businesses in downtown Marseille.
