Brazen attempt at fraud on a cat breeder: 35-year-old woman convicted in Salzburg
A curious and animal fraud trial was heard on Friday afternoon at the Salzburg regional court. The public prosecutor’s office charged a 35-year-old Russian woman living in Pinzgau with trying to cheat a cat breeder from Belarus in a particularly brazen way.

According to the verdict, the defendant faked the death of two cats she had acquired, the British Shorthair species (here in the symbol). With this she wanted to demand compensation from the breeder.
Specifically, according to the criminal complaint, the 35-year-old should have bought two pedigree cats, genus British Shorthair, from the said breeder in May 2019. Shortly after the four-legged friends arrived in Pinzgau, the accused then led the breeder to believe that the cats had died or had died. had to be put to sleep – she therefore wanted proper compensation. The defendant sent the breeder several veterinary bills, laboratory results and even an invoice for the – alleged – cremation of one of the cats. Alone: the invoices and findings were falsified – in fact, the public prosecutor’s office, the 35-year-old resold the four-legged friends – the latter would be the best.
As Peter Egger, the regional court, announced, the accused, who was silent during the preliminary investigation, did not appear at the criminal trial with no excuse: “The responsible single judge has therefore passed a so-called absentee judgment and sentenced the woman to six months of conditional imprisonment for attempted serious fraud.” The public prosecutor’s office waived legal remedies – but the judgment is not yet final; The 35-year-old has fourteen days from the delivery of the court decision to possibly appeal.
