Burglary of donations: online collection should help
Social
On the one hand, more and more people in need, on the other hand, fewer donations due to lockdown and pandemics – Catholic Caritas is currently in this dilemma. You will make do with an online donation portal.
60,000 people in Salzburg are at risk of poverty – significantly more than in 2019. Since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic, Salzburg’s Caritas has recorded 30 to 40 percent more inquiries: “In these years alone we have had 14,000 consultations,” says Salzburg’s Caritas director Johannes Essen. This year the Catholic aid organization is supporting 5,000 people in the state with food parcels, electricity grants and financial emergency bridging. Many people need help who never needed it before.
“We like campaigns at Christmas time”
At the same time, it is currently more important for Caritas to collect donations, emphasizes Dines: We can of course feel this in our donation budget – an increasing need, but at the same time not the incoming donations that we usually have at this time of the year. “
Online portal for donations of money, material and time
Salzburg’s Caritas therefore set up an online donation portal – with many different ways to help: But donations in kind are also accepted online – for example for putting together a Christmas package. You can also register online for time donations such as assistance with learning aids or cooking for the homeless.
This should create more relationship and closeness, emphasizes Dines: “You can decide what and how much you want to use something. This also creates this closeness – that you know: What are you giving it for? ”The feedback and response from the donors is very positive. Some donations have already been received via the online portal, according to Caritas.
