Norway agrees with EU and UK on fishing quotas
On Friday, the tripartite agreement on the management of the common stocks in the North Sea was signed, reports the Ministry of Trade and Industry.
– Sustainable management of the stocks in the North Sea depends on Norway, the EU and the United Kingdom being the only ones on total quotas. This agreement lays the foundation for the bilateral agreements, and I am very pleased that we have now reached an agreement, says Minister of Fisheries and Maritime Affairs Bjørnar Skjæran (Labor) in a statement.
Some quotas increase from last year, while others are reduced.
The total quota for herring will increase by 20 per cent compared with 2021, while the total quota for victories will be reduced by 24 per cent.
The cod quota is set at the same level as in 2021 and will thus continue at a record low level next year as well.
– I understand that 2022 will be a new demanding year for Norwegian fishermen, but it is unfortunately necessary to take care of the cod stock in the North Sea, says Skjæran.
