L’Adige di VeronaEzra Pound, the sixth commission asks that Verona create a path in its Scaligeri places
Not without controversy, today in the Sixth Commission, chaired by President Mauro Bonato, the motion of the director Andrea Bacciga was unanimously dismissed, to be voted on in the Council, so that the Municipality of Verona takes action with cultural and tourist itineraries to enhance the figure from Ezra Pound, a great admirer of our city – his most important work The Cantos it is considered a masterpiece of modernist literature, in which references to Verona are manifold – and in which he stayed in 1898 and 1929. Among the Scaligeri places that have left a mark on the poet we remember the Capitular Library, where he studied numerous works by authors such as Guido Cavalcanti, the Basilica of San Zeno and the Twelve Apostles restaurant, in which a pen donated by him can still be seen today.
President Bonato, who wanted to bring the motion to the Commission, agreed with Bacciga’s initiative, reaffirming Pound’s link with Verona and the need to recognize him.
Bonato’s words were joined by the councilor Daniela Drudi, who had organized the fact-finding visit to the Chapter, where the prefect Bruno Fasani had highlighted the evidence of the passage of the writer, who was entertaining himself to study the books kept there.
During the debate in the Commission, replying to the councilor Michele Bertucco, the councilor Bacciga and the other commissioners present confirmed their desire to highlight the figure of Pound exclusively from a cultural and literary point of view and his relationship with Verona.
