“The decline in the disease is still very strong, and in the hospitals we are happily seeing the lowest number of corona patients dying in almost three weeks,” said Gernot Filipp, head of state statistics, in a broadcast on Thursday.

On November 14th, the infection rate for the reproductive value was 1.34. Ten days ago it fell below 1 for the first time and is currently at 0.82. The effects of the 2-G rule, the lockdown, but also the booster vaccinations are now visible.

Corona incidence sunk in all age groups
In the last week there are seven-day incidences of death in all age groups, in some cases by more than half. The decline was particularly pronounced among those over 55 years of age. “The incidence is lowest among those over 75 years of age, at 180, where the effect of the booster vaccinations is particularly evident,” says Gernot Filipp. The group of ten to 15 year olds who had an incidence of 4,307 two weeks ago has now reached 1,476.
Salzburg further ahead when it comes to refreshments
As of Thursday, 177,035 Salzburg residents received a booster vaccination, 12,867 this week. Rainer Pusch, the state’s vaccination coordinator, emphasizes the importance of the third dose, also in connection with the new virus variant Omikron: “We do not yet know how well the available vaccines protect against Omikron. However, initial studies indicate that the protection is improved with a third significant dose, ”said Pusch. The vaccination coverage rate in Salzburg is 64.6 percent. A quote from 80 to 85 is considered from a medical point of view as a goal to be successful in the fight against the pandemic.
100,000 infections bald in Salzburg
Despite the noticeable relaxation, the total number of infections has been steadily approaching the 100,000 mark since the start of the pandemic at 99,257. The total population of Salzburg is 560,710. In the state, 739 people have died as a result of a corona infection, up to 25 in December.
Large regional differences
The regional spread is still very high, but the number of municipalities with extremely high incidences is falling significantly. Currently, twelve communities still have a seven-day incidence of over 1,000. Hüttschlag is at the top with 2,632, ahead of Adnet (1,497) and Muhr (1,237). After there was only one municipality last week (Viehhofen), there are currently no active cases in five municipalities (Lessach, Thomatal, Tweng, Fusch and, as before, Viehhofen).
