Against a future medical desert, the inhabitants of Canet in the northern districts of Marseille are mobilizing
The future closure of the medical center worries the residents of Canet, located in the northern districts of Marseille. They were flagged this Friday to warn of the high risks of nursing reports.
The inhabitants of Canet in the 14th arrondissement of Marseille are mobilizing against the closure of the medical center in their district scheduled for December 17.
In a week, the Jean-Jaurès medical center which serves three cities in the northern districts of Marseille will close its doors: one of the two doctors who had been practicing in the district for 34 years is retiring without having found a successor and
his colleague was forced to leave unable to assume the responsibilities of the
center which has three wardrobes.
“I am shocked, saddened. After 34 years, I feel like I’m leaving like a thief “ says Doctor Blain.
“If the center closed, we are really lost. In our neighborhood, there is nothing.
We are worried, overwhelmed, we don’t know what to do or where to turn», Explains Krissi Ali Houroiri, mother of two children.
The two general practitioners treated between 350 and 450 patients per week, of which 80%
lived next to the medical center, in particular in the HLM Jean-Jaurès, Massalia and Campagne Larousse housing estates, which has several thousand inhabitants.
More than 150 families have already signed a petition demanding that the continuity of
the supply of medical services is ensured in their neighborhood because other doctors
present in the neighborhood claimed to no longer be able to welcome new patients.
Consequence, a “high risk of care reports for some residents” who
cannot make a long trip to consult, explains Robin Assous, animator of the Saint-Gabriel social center for “neighborhood tables”, a collective of residents and associations present in 20 priority districts of Marseille.
The facilitator underlines the advantageous conditions of installation for new
doctors who will benefit “a patient ceded free of charge, a low rent of less than 300 euros per practitioner and a tax exemption until the ninth yeare “.
To attract candidates, calls for candidates must be sent out, in particular by the Regional Health Agency (ARS) to the Order of Physicians and the Faculty of Medicine.
Another hypothesis considered, the creation of a health center or house with
salaried doctors freed from administrative tasks like what exists
already at the Château en santé, a community care center located in a former bastide district.
The urgency of the situation was conveyed to the new prefect delegated to the “Marseille en grand” plan wanted by President Emmanuel Macron.
