Salzburg politicians partially demand stadium plans
City politics in Salzburg has partially rejected the current plans for the new Austria Stadium and the associated apartments. The parties face the project differently.
The Max Aicher Group recently presented plans for a new Austria Stadium with an adjoining residential complex. For example, it was announced that the stadium will also serve as a multi-purpose hall for many sports and events. Information on project costs was also published. Company founder Max Aicher is hoping for approval from the city.

How to die Kronenzeitung reported, the parties are still divided. The SPÖ find the plans very interesting, but consider them difficult to implement. The deputy mayor of the city of Salzburg, Bernhardinger (SPÖ), is aware that Austria Salzburg needs support for a venue. The ÖVP would currently reject the project. The citizens’ list speaks in favor of the apartments, but rather against the stadium plans. The FPÖ, on the other hand, is fundamentally convinced of the project.
With the project approach, you have to leave the property to the Aicher Group, which is why it sometimes leads to uncertainty and rejection in politics. Harald Preuner (ÖVP) has known Max Aicher’s residential and stadium plans for a few weeks. The entrepreneur also called on the mayor of Salzburg. Nevertheless, he has doubts that a gift to the city will be feasible: “Giving a gift sounds nice, but it also incurs operating costs,” says Preuner. He also suspects usage conflicts between the trade fair, sports facilities and neighboring residents. (Stadionwelt, December 9th, 2021)
