Mainland Portugal has 614 active covid-19 outbreaks
There are 614 active covid-19 outbreaks in mainland Portugal, according to the Directorate-General for Health (DGS).
According to data made available by the health authority to Lusa, on Monday, December 6, 614 outbreaks were active – 378 in education in the public and private sectors, 39 in homes and 15 in health institutions. The DGS highlights that this number contrasts with the maximum reached in the country, in February, when 921 outbreaks were active.
The 368 active outbreaks in schools corresponding to 3,082 cases of covid-19 accumulated, among students, professionals and cohabitants, part of which have already been recovered, according to the DGS.
The 39 active outbreaks in homes refer to 543 cases, part of which were also recovered. The DGS outbreaks even though in February the number of outbreaks existing in nursing homes was much higher. While there are now 39, at the time there were 405, with around 12 thousand cases.
“The drastic decrease in this context demonstrates the importance that vaccination has no control over the pandemic and in protecting the most vulnerable population”, he highlights.
Of the 15 outbreaks in health institutions, there were 156 cases.
The majority of outbreaks (313) are located in the area of the Regional Health Administration of Lisbon and Vale do Tejo (ARSLVT). It is followed by the ARS Norte (151), the ARS centro (87), the ARS Algarve (35) and the ARS do Alentejo (28).
It should be noted that a week ago there were 564 outbreaks of covid-19 active in mainland Portugal – 338 in schools, 44 in nursing homes and 16 in health institutions.
