This is the first time that the Bordeaux fairgrounds have offered Christmas tickets to children in need. Organized jointly with the town hall, this action is part of the Secours populaire’s “Green Father Christmas” operation.
For a few moments, a mountain of tickets sat enthroned on one of the rotating elements of the Carrousel in Place Tourny. Offered by the fairgrounds of Bordeaux, these merry-go-round tickets will be distributed at the 34 Secours populaire reception centers in Gironde. “They will benefit the 18,000 families we help, 40% of the members of which are minors,” explains Alain Haneuse, departmental secretary of the Gironde association.
The city hall of Bordeaux decided this year to rebalance the Christmas spirit in the eight districts. “We started with the illuminations and we asked the fairgrounds if they were able to install a merry-go-round by district”, details Sandrine Jacotot, deputy mayor in charge of shops.
The owners of these rides then agreed to offer tickets to the children. “We, the fairgrounds, are used to giving money to associations every year. The human side, even humanitarian, is close to the fairgrounds. However, taking action for Christmas and for underprivileged children had never occurred to us. It was Ms. Jacotot who guided us when we lack the time and resources, ”says fairground Julie Dupond.
