(Vevay, Ind.) – The Community Foundation of Switzerland County, Inc. is proud to announce that Anastasia “Annie” Faddis has received the Switzerland County’s Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship 2021-2022.
Annie is the daughter of Rodney & Heather Faddis from Vevay. She was very involved in the band and has received numerous awards. She is the class treasurer, vice president of the student council, and is a member of the National Honor Society. Outside of school, Annie has served as a 4-H camp counselor and group leader. She also works as a lifeguard at Switzerland County’s YMCA and as a caretaker at Aberdeen Preschool. Annie plans to major in biochemistry at Ball State University.
Each Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship provides full tuition, required fees, and a special allocation of up to $ 900 per year in required books and equipment for a four-year, full-time undergraduate degree leading to a bachelor’s degree from an eligible Indiana public institution or private non-profit college or university. Lilly Endowment Community Scholars can also participate in the Lilly Scholars Network (LSN), which connects scholars with resources and opportunities to be active leaders on their campus and in their communities. Both the scholarship program and LSN are supported by grants from Lilly Endowment to Independent Colleges of Indiana (ICI).
The selection committee of the Swiss District Foundation examined thirteen applications this year. Applicants were rated on academic knowledge, financial needs, activities (school activities, community service, and work experience), and writing samples. The selection committee evaluated the applications in a blind process, ie the committee members did not know whose applications they were evaluating. After the Community Foundation’s selection committee reviewed and evaluated all applications, it passed their recommendation on to the Independent Colleges of Indiana (ICI), which made the final decision on the scholarship holder.
Since 1997, ICI has administered the Lilly Endowment Community Nationwide Scholarship Program with funding from Lilly Endowment. Founded in 1948, ICI is the joint voice of the state’s 29 private, not-for-profit colleges and universities.
Lilly Endowment Inc. has provided just over $ 439 million in grants to the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship Program since the program was launched for the 1997-1998 school year. To date, more than 5,000 Indiana high school students have received the scholarship.
