Genoa: the redevelopment of the former Mira Lanza has begun, a new complex by 2024
This morning, after decades of neglect and years of planning, the works of redevelopment of the former Mira Lanza soap factory in Rivarolo. The first bucket started the demolition of the dilapidated buildings, which will follow, within the first months of 2024, the construction of a commercial and sports complex surrounded by greenery.
Once the project is finished, a logistics center, offices, public services and meeting and leisure spaces, as well as a multipurpose sports field and several green areas and parking lots. The construction of the new complex also provides for radical interventions for the improvement of the viability. Among others, a roundabout in via Rivarolo and the widening of via Lepanto, in addition to the increase in the underpass that connects it to via Perlasca, also in view of the heavy traffic originating from the new center.
“It is a black hole that is going to be filled in – comments the mayor Marco Bucci – We had the first meeting in March 2021, and today, in December, we start with the works. We have done our job as a public administration, that is, we facilitate the operations that are important for the city, checking that they are going well and in accordance with our vision. Putting this area in order and obtaining a decementing result, with the planned constructions even less bulky than the current state of affairs, is important. And the benefit that the city will derive from it is important. The plant has been abandoned since the 1990s, so it has been in this situation for thirty years and more, and having someone committed to putting it back in place is a very positive fact ».
“This will result in the creation of 300-400 jobs, an important fact – continues Bucci – On the other side of the stream we have already authorized the creation of another logistic center, that of Sogegross, which in turn involves the employment of another 250 people. Let’s say that Valpolcevera achieves its goal, which is not only to have a habitability and quality of life, but also to be able to give people work. I am talking about work in safety, paid the right amount and which does not affect the landscape aspect and, obviously, the level of pollution on the urban fabric. The direction in which we are moving wants to make all operations eco-sustainable, and this is it ».
Today we experienced a highly symbolic moment for the city – says the city councilor for economic development Stefano Garassino – because we leave the past behind and project Rivarolo and the former Mira Lanza towards the future. After years of neglect, finally seeing an urban regeneration of exceptional importance grow day by day and which will have important repercussions also in the employment field. I want to thank the Civs, the Town Hall and the trade unions, with whom we are working in close collaboration so that, even if it is a private area, the wishes of the neighborhood are also realized within the former Mira Lanza ».
