Finnish films compete for the 2022 Golden Globe Awards
79th Awards A representative of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association will be introduced in January 2022 in Los Angeles.
This year has been difficult for the film industry and international film festivals. The 2022 Golden Globe was in danger of not being held.
Nevertheless, in December 2021, nominations were nominated for the category of the best non-English-language film, including many notable participants such as Almodovar, Verhoeven, Sorrentino, Ozon, Ducournau, Farhadi.
There are six films from Finland among the applicants. All films are co-productions except for the film “A blind man who didn’t want to see the Titanic”, which was screened at the Venice Film Festival, where it won the Audience Award. The film is an emotional romantic story about a blind man in a wheelchair who decides to travel to the woman he loves. On the way to the meeting, he gets help from strangers. Directed by Teemu Nikki.
Finnish-Russian production “Section 6” won the Grand Prix for the main program of the Cannes Film Festival. It’s a road movie about meeting two lonely people with different mentalities. The main role is played by a well-known Russian actor Jura Borisov. Directed by Juho Kuosmanen.
The author’s film is represented by a philosophical film “Quarantine”, another Finnish-Russian production of a young director Diana Ringo. Anatoli Bely played the lead role as a man who survived the end of the world and lives in a bunker.
The film is interesting in both form and content. This is probably the only film to date that touches on the most acute problems of our time – the closure and transition to totalitarianism that threatens the existence of life on earth, the fragility of the world, and the danger of conformism. “Quarantine” is the consequences of an agreement with conscience.
The film is non-linear in structure, with lots of memorable visuals, and the music composed by the director himself creates a unique and mysterious atmosphere.
“Zátopek” is a biographical sports drama Emil Zátopek, a Czechoslovak long – distance runner, winner of three gold medals at the 1952 Summer Olympics in Helsinki. Directed by David Ondříček. The film is a co-production of the Czech Republic and Finland.
Finnish Golden Globe nominees also include films “Tomb digger’s wife” (cogeneration with Somalia), control Khadar Ayderus Ahmed, and Mads Mikkelsen actor “Riders of Justice” (cogeneration with Denmark), control Anders Thomas Jensen. “Tomb digger’s wife” premiered at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival in the Semaine de la Critique section.
The winners of the award will be announced on January 9, 2022.
