Lisbon welcomes Alice to the land of lights – News
The magic of Wonderland has already arrived at Jardim Tropical de Belém. After becoming a great success in Porto, the magic garden a new address in the capital, with the aim of making the world of writer Lewis Carroll known to Lisboners. However, there is a peculiarity: all the figures in the installation are made of lights.
Atelier OCUBO presents a night sensory adventure, starring the absent-minded Alice. There are 24 giant luminous experiences, inspired by the works Alice in Wonderland and Alice from the Other Side of the Mirror.
Along a kilometer of route, it is possible to interact with sculptures, light design, sound environments and multimedia installations. The White Rabbit, Mad Hatter, Blue Caterpillar, Cheshire Cat and the evil Queen of Hearts can thus be viewed in a variety of formats, including holograms and augmented reality.
And how surprises don’t end here! When looking at the façade of the Palácio dos Condes da Calheta, it will also be possible to watch a projection of video mapping. Finally, not even the analog formats that gave rise to the story are left out, it being possible to read passages of the work along the way.
Nuno Maya, artistic director of OCUBO, deepens the idea behind this show, “where adults are also children again”. “We are all Alices in the real world. We are curious and move forward in our life episode after episode, always with the unexpected around the corner. We crossed wise people like Larva or Authoritarian like the Queen of Hearts and we went our way. Curiosity moves Alice in Wonderland as it moves humanity in the wonderful real world! We’re all crazy here and that’s the 2nd edition of Jardim Mágico”, he says.
Until April 17th of next year, dare to discover Alice’s magical world, full of surprises, colors and, above all, lights! The Magical Garden can be visited from Tuesday to Sunday by the whole family, including holidays and the eve of public holidays.
