Transferred to the AKH – first Covid intensive care patient from Salzburg in Vienna
From other federal states, who are also relocating with critical conditions in the intensive care bed occupancy, there should not be any in the federal capital for the time being. At least nothing was planned until late Wednesday afternoon. However, the federal capital lent three Ecmo devices (these are those devices in which the blood is taken out of the body and enriched with oxygen outside the body and then returned, note) to Lower Austria. These are used for severe Covid intensive care patients, it said from Hacker’s office.
Meanwhile, the number of corona patients in intensive care in the state of Salzburg has risen sharply again. While 45 infected people were in the intensive care units on Tuesday, there were already 50 patients on Wednesday. The previously indicated upper limit of 51 intensive care beds has thus been practically reached. For the time being, 17 more Covid intensive care beds were provided.
Because of the tense situation, the number of intensive care beds has been increased. In the University Hospital Salzburg, 13 more beds can be occupied with Covid intensive care patients, in the Klinikum Schwarzach another four beds, as the spokesman for the Salzburg State Clinics (SALK), Wolfgang Fürweger, positive on APA request on Wednesday.
A spokesman for the country stressed that everything would be done to ensure that all people who need medical care receive it. Additional Covid intensive care beds could be provided as required. For the time being, no further transfers are planned in another federal state. Initially, the number of Covid intensive care patients who die today and tomorrow will be brought by helicopter to Vienna General Hospital from Salzburg will remain.
The number of corona patients in the normal wards of the Salzburg hospitals has remained the same since yesterday. According to national statistics, there were 205 patients on Tuesday, currently there are 206.
The federal state of Salzburg was again at the top nationwide on Wednesday with a seven-day incidence of 1,734.6. As of Tuesday, 1,464 new infections and seven coronavirus-related connections have been recorded.
More and more children who are dying of the coronavirus need medical care in the hospital. According to a current report from ORF Salzburg, a newborn with Covid-19 suspicion was admitted to the parent-child ward of the children’s hospital in the Salzburg University Clinic. It is one of five children and adolescents who are currently in the children’s hospital because of a coronavirus infection. A five-year-old boy still needs intensive treatment there. A four-year-old girl who suffered from the corona-related illness PIMS is back in the normal ward and is likely to leave the hospital soon.
