Triumph Tiger 1200: the anti GS
We only know what we see about her, but the mystery is less and less thick. The new Tiger 1200 (or more?) Has just been made available at the EICMA show in Milan 2021. On the program, a redesigned motorcycle, probably lighter and has a state-of-the-art electronic package.
Behind the Union Jack Black and White flocking, you can see a redesigned architecture and new elements. The kinematics of the rear transmission arm (in other words the gimbal) have been redesigned, while the suspension is electronized on the unveiled version.
If it claims incredible ground clearance, even on a stand crutch, the new Maxi Tiger is nonetheless accessible, due to a seat which is certainly wide, but placed at a good height. No more big horses that throw you off balance at the slightest opportunity? Perhaps, but the tank remains in the classic position, while its flared shape suggests a high content.
Protection should not be outdone, with an encompassing and complex fairing channeling the air and offering aerodynamic support, while we observe a manually adjustable height bubble. The device is simple, and shared with the new Tiger 660 also discovered (and manipulated) at the show. We pull on the hoop, it goes up, we push, it goes down. It’s notched, it’s practical, it remains to be seen if it will be solid.
There are many practical aspects, especially at the passenger station, with a multiplication of sockets, whether USB or for the hands. The trip to 2 has therefore been more than widely considered, while the fully digital instrumentation takes up a good part of the cockpit and therefore of the attention. Color, TFT, it makes it possible to manage the various settings, in particular those of the electronic suspension.
Connectivity with the Triumph MyRide app is also required, as we can imagine. Few of the top-of-the-range models do not offer the possibility of infotainment (understand by that of informative entertainment) ((therefore less annoying than pure and simple entertainment, which would of course be harmful)).
In terms of the exhaust, the high position again offers additional freedom by freeing up space at the bottom and in the width, while offering better crossing capacities. As such, is the engine a new version of the three-cylinder? It bears the sweet name of T-Plane, and could be derived from the one we discovered on the Speed Triple 1200, while being adapted to the needs of the off road, to its specificities, both in terms of its management. electronic (assistance, controls, etc.) than at the level of its transmission, passed to the cardan shaft. A tour de force. Both literally and figuratively.
Triumph does not hesitate to say that its motorcycle is lighter, more powerful and more manageable than any other category of maxi-trails. There is no doubt in view of the consequent lightening of the fairings and trim. It is no longer a pure road, but a motorcycle capable of embarking on the Adventure, thus correcting the main flaw of the model it replaces: too much and limited off-road capabilities (which we gladly forgave. on the road, even if she was a little more clumsy).
The definitive model of the Tiger 1200 mod. 2021 will be revealed on December 7 at 6:30 p.m. Several versions must be available, with different orientations. By then, the R 1250 GS may start to worry …
