Salzburg: Car driver looks at the navigation system – and overlooks the local train
On Monday afternoon, a car with a set of the Salzburg local railway collided at the Elisabethstraße level crossing in Salzubrg-Itzling.
On Monday afternoon, a 36-year-old Skowake was driving his car on August-Gruber-Strasse into town and turned into Elisabethstrasse. According to his own statements, he looked at his navigation system because of his ignorance of the location and overlooked the fact that he was approaching a level crossing.
Immediately in front of this local level crossing, the Slovak heard a loud noise, which is why he looked ahead and noticed a train on the Salzburg Railway coming from the right, above all it initiated an emergency braking. The train driver also braked, but could no longer prevent a collision.
The Slovakian’s vehicle was lifted up by the force of the impact and dragged along for about ten meters. The Slovakian driver only suffered minor injuries to his right hand, but his car was badly damaged.
The train driver and around 30 passengers on the local train were unharmed. The alcohol tests for both parties involved in the accident were negative (0.00 per mil). In addition to four police patrols, three vehicles from the Salzburg fire brigade and one vehicle from the Red Cross were involved in recording the accident and cleaning up.
