Salzburg nursing director: (yet) no exodus of nurses
Despite the stressful situation in the hospitals, very few nurses are currently resigning, says Gabriela Moser from the Salzburg University Hospital. The great exhaustion is still to come. Nevertheless, there are bright spots: The nursing profession is more popular than ever.
There has been a lot to read about the dramatic situation in hospitals in recent days: nurses told of corpses dying in the corridor and services that resemble marathons, doctors of conditions like those in a hospital. For the chronic shortage of nursing staff, especially nurses WILL die. Rumors of mass layoffs by nurses are currently making the rounds, and according to a study from June, half of nurses keep thinking about retiring.
The great exodus of nurses from the hospitals has so far not taken place, says Franziska Moser. She is the nursing director in the Salzburg regional hospital and therefore for 250 employees. The fluctuation among employees has remained the same since the first wave of the corona pandemic – there is still a shortage, says Moser.
