Four arrested for tobacco smuggling at Lisbon airport
Qfour people were arrested in the act, last Monday, at Lisbon Airport, on suspicion of smuggling volumes of tobacco.
The three men and one woman, aged between 24 and 37, were detained by the PSP, through the Airport Security Division, in an operation aimed at controlling and monitoring organized groups of preference.
In a note published on social networks, the Metropolitan Command of the PSP in Lisbon indicates that “it was possible to find out that the suspects were acting in common efforts, acquiring low-cost trips, transporting the contraband product, then introducing it to the market in national territory, without presenting it to the Tax and Customs Authority, thus exempting themselves from the formalities of dispatch and payment of the taxes due”.
Two of the suspects were surprised in the parking lot of Humberto Delgado Airport, next to the car, as they were preparing to leave the place.
The other two were already at the flight boarding gate, about to leave national territory.
In this police action, the PSP seized 73 volumes of tobacco, four hold luggage tags, four hold suitcases, a Mercedes car key, a car and four cell phones.
“The seized tobacco (34,600 cigarettes) has a market value of 7,785 euros and the vehicle has a market value of approximately 35,000 euros”, also indicates a PSP.
Detainees known to the Term of Identity and Residence.
