Salzburg Airport: Corona vaccination in the Eurowings Airbus
Get vaccinated on the plane? In Salzburg, this is now made possible by a cooperation between the airport, the airline, the State of Salzburg and the Red Cross. Where normal passengers start their vacation relaxed or fly to their business appointment in the shortest possible time, doctors and representatives of the Red Cross try to vaccinate as many people as possible. Just like on vacation – just check in at the check-in for the “stitch in flight” (the data is recorded by employees of the Red Cross), through a special counter at the security controls to the gate and then there are only a few steps left the plane from Eurowings.
Both before the stitch and after the stitch there are enough seats for waiting “vaccination passengers” – including a look into the cockpit, because the flight captain Bernhard Dallner and his crew also make every effort to ensure the well-being of the guests on board. After the “safe landing in the vaccination”, everyone who has just been vaccinated can return to the check-in hall using the same route.

Bettina Ganghofer, Managing Director of Salzburg Airport GmbH:
“We are happy to support every offensive by the state of Salzburg when it comes to immunizing our population against Corona. With the increasing volume of air traffic in Europe, the possibility of unlimited travel is an important signal for all people, business groups and industry. In addition to this unlimited freedom of travel, the COVID-19 vaccination will also be indispensable in the future. “
Robert Jahn, CEO Eurowings Europe:
“Like hardly any other industry, aviation shows that safe travel is possible even in times of pandemics. Since vaccination progress plays a key role here, we are the first airline in Europe to transform a Eurowings Airbus into a vaccination station for one day. We want to encourage as many people as possible to get vaccinated and to show the flag for health and responsible mobility. “
Dr. Christian Stöckl, Health Officer of the State of Salzburg:
“The initiative of Salzburg Airport to provide an Airbus on the ground for vaccinations is a unique vaccination option and an extraordinary and welcome offer for people who decide to have a corona vaccination. In view of the increasing number of infections it cannot be stressed enough – the vaccination protects very well against a severe course and relieves the intensive care units. Everyone who vaccinates takes responsibility for themselves and others and thus makes a short contribution to increasing the vaccination rate in order to get out of the pandemic. “
Dr. Werner Aufmesser, President of the Red Cross Salzburg. Dr. Werner Aufmesser works as a vaccination doctor in many vaccination campaigns, so he knows from experience that vaccination options without registration have been very popular, especially recently.
“Every vaccination counts, so we as the Red Cross immediately agreed to support the handling of this extraordinary vaccination date,” said Rotkreuz President Werner Aufmesser. “We hope that this offer will be used by many people, because this is the only way we can fight the pandemic.”
