Large-scale exercise in the Lieferinger Tunnel – salzburg.ORF.at
timeline
The fire brigade, Red Cross, police and ASFINAG practiced the emergency in the Lieferinger tunnel on the west autobahn on Wednesday evening. The most effective cooperation was tested – and whether the alerting of the emergency organizations worked well.
The Lieferinger Tunnel was closed for two hours in the direction of Munich. Exercise assumption: Serious accident with three cars and injuries – a car loses gasoline and burns. As in an emergency, the ASFINAG monitoring center in St. Michael (Lungau) triggers the local extinguishing system in the tunnel and the alarm chain during the exercise.
Thick water mist from sprinklers
Reinhold Ortler is fire director of the Salzburg professional fire brigade: “You can suddenly expect a thick water mist, similar to driving through a smoke screen. We have to test the security technology, check the alarm routes. “
Many accidents in the direction of Munich
The professional fire brigade arrived in the tunnel five minutes after the alarm was raised. The Lieferinger Tunnel is one of the most modern in Europe. The law prescribes such exercises every four years, says Werner Baier of the Anif motorway police (Flachgau): “This tunnel is already a hotspot. When entering Germany in the direction of travel, accidents between lorries and cars occur time and again when changing lanes. “
Fast, continuously traveled route
A tunnel accident on the city motorway would be a more difficult mission. For the exercise, too, the section should only be closed for as short a time as possible, according to autobahn policeman Baier: “All traffic would come to a standstill if there were closures at the same time. We would have traffic jams up to 15 kilometers in length. That would not have to be answered. “
The direction of Munich was closed for two hours for the tunnel exercise. Motorists were diverted via the Salzburg-Mitte roundabout.
