How TSM can still qualify for SI22, even though they are not in Sweden – SiegeGG
2022 Six Invitational is now just over three months away and already has 12 teams qualified for it. The last eight teams that will join Siege’s annual world championships will be decided via four open qualifiers – one per region – and whichever team can make it into the top 16 of the SI points table at the end of Sex Sweden Major next week .
So far, the following 12 teams have locked themselves in place from Six Invitational Global Standings:
- North America – Oxygen, Soniqs, DarkZero and SSG
- Latin America – One, Liquid, NiP and FURIA
- Europe – BDS, NAVI and Empire
- Asia Pacific – Raise
This leaves four places left and eight teams are still in the competition to win them; TSM from NA, FaZe from LATAM, Vitality from EU and iG, DWG, SANDBOX and CAG from APAC.
While most of these teams compete in the Six Sweden Major, TSM will not be, which means they can not earn more points. Fortunately for them, they already lead these seven other teams with 725 points – 225 from Step 1, 275 from Step 2 and 225 again from Step 3.
This means that TSM must hope that the six other competing line-ups do not get many points in Sweden. As they are currently in 13th place, only three of the following can become a reality for them to remain in the top 16:
- SANDBOX Games does it from his group
- DWG KIA does it from his group
- Team Vitality does it from his group
- FaZe clan does it from his group
- Invictus Gaming makes it to the semifinals
- Villain makes it to the semifinals
If four of the above scenarios occur, they will finish in 17th place, which means they will have to fight for the open qualifying spot.
Fortunately for TSM, Vitality and Rogue have not played at this level since before the COVID-19 pandemic paused the global game and several APAC teams have only made it into the top eight in a major at one time, SI19. This means that it is quite likely that TSM will be able to penetrate through the skin of their teeth.
The same can not be said about CYCLOPS which, even though they are only five points from TSM at 720 SI points, are in a very uncertain place both DWG and SANDBOX could end up in points with them with only a third place in their group, a pretty feasible result. In addition, iG can also join them on 720 if they escape their group and make a very narrow four-way scenario for SI qualification.
