Resume collaboration to renew democracy
Last spring, the ArengoLab Group launched the idea of living in our country to a participatory democracy and not merely delegated by voting, inspired by the spirit of the 1906 Arengo and also referring to the “charter” of the Council of Europe of the January 22, 2014. etc.), and of influential and regular participation in public interest policies. Participation, competition and especially the sharing of social responsibilities are not guaranteed in the amount and manner indicated in the aforementioned Council of Europe recommendation. He opened a dialogue with those who gave their availability to this confrontation which was slowed down by the summer, by the referendum campaign and also by the season of trade unions congresses with which an interesting confrontation is opened. In the meantime, he worked on a bill on the subject that ArengoLab would like to present through the popular initiative. The project intends to re-establish the central role of citizens and social partners as bearers of interest and responsibility, as well as of rights, and therefore of interlocutors and valuable contributions for local and central administrations (“Nothing about us without us”). To this end, he returns to solicit the collaboration of all those who renew their readiness that our democracy can be and be adapted to the evolving times and to the indications already provided by the Council of Europe. The invitation to this collaboration is particularly addressed to the social partners and associations that are bearers of the social and cultural aspirations and needs of citizens. This is because we recognize the flourishing of a San Marino association that sometimes struggles to coordinate and express itself in a unified manner. Without this renewal there is a risk of citizens being alienated from politics and from the awareness that a country without participation in democracy has no future. In times of great fragility of democratic institutions, of connectivity rather than collectivity, of individualism, it is necessary to open our eyes to the local and global reality, to network, to act together, to cultivate trust.
