Overview
The Swedish government announced that current entry restrictions will be extended until for international travelers depending on the country.
EU / EEA travelers
Entry restrictions will be extended until 30 November 2021 for travelers from European Union (EU) and European Economic Area (EEA) countries. Travelers from EU and EEA countries will need to present the EU digital covid certificate or an equivalent certificate showing that they have either been vaccinated against covid-19, tested negative within 72 hours before arrival or recovered from covid-19 in the past six months. Travelers from Denmark, Finland, Iceland and Norway are not covered by the entry restrictions and do not need to present a certificate when entering Sweden.
Travelers outside the EU / EEA
Entry restrictions will be extended until 31 January 2022 for travelers from outside the EU and EEA. Travelers who want to travel into Sweden from a country outside the EU and the EEA must be covered by one of the exemptions from the entry restriction and must present a negative COVID-19 test result. Some exceptions include living in an exempt country or holding a vaccine certificate from an approved country.
Exceptions for fully vaccinated travelers from the United States and other countries
Travelers who can present a vaccination certificate issued in the United States are exempt from the entry ban and test requirements from November 5, 2021. Travelers who can present a vaccine certificate issued in Guernsey, the Isle of Man or Jersey are exempt from entry restrictions. From 11 October 2021, travelers who can present a vaccination certificate issued in the UK are also exempt from entry restrictions.
What are the changes?
The current entry restriction would expire on October 31, 2021. This new announcement will extend the entry restrictions for travelers based on place of departure and vaccination status. This change will also allow fully vaccinated travelers with US vaccination certificates to enter Sweden without entry restrictions.
