Ban on dancing on quiet days: Greens start to repeal
Munich – According to the Bavarian Public Holidays Act, “public entertainment events” with a cheerful character are generally prohibited on these days between 2 am and midnight. That is what the Greens want to change: THEY demand that all cultural and dance events are treated equally with sporting events – deaths are allowed, except on Good Friday and on the Day of Repentance and Prayer. The Green Nuns have submitted a corresponding bill to the state parliament.
“A quite arbitrary regulation”
“You can hold boxing competitions in Bavaria on the quiet days, get drunk in public on the CSU’s political Ash Wednesday and of course go to the rifle club. You even have to work on several of these days – for example, you can cut pigs in shifts – but you don’t dance “, said the cultural-political spokeswoman for the Greens, Sanne Kurz, on Thursday of the German press agency in Munich. “All of this seems to me to be a very arbitrary regulation, to say the least.” A worse position of night culture compared to sport and other areas of life can no longer be accepted, especially after the Bundestag had clubs as recognized cultural locations in May of this year, excellent short.
Most recently, the state parliament passed a draft of the then CSU / FDP state government in 2013 and relaxed the ban on dancing at least on a few quiet days. On the previous nights, clubs and restaurants have been allowed to dance until 2 a.m. and no longer just until midnight. Exceptions are Good Friday, Holy Saturday (when the protection period begins at midnight) and Christmas Eve (2 p.m.).
Association of Munich Cultural Organizers welcomes the initiative
The Association of Munich Cultural Organizers welcomes the initiative of the Greens. “The holiday law is no longer up-to-date and does not correspond to the way of life, the cultural interests of young people,” said chairman David Suss. Disturbance by nightly cultural events on the quiet days is excluded. No night culture place disturbs residents, “otherwise regular operation would not be possible”.
