With an audience with Pope Francis: Foreign Minister Hasler in Rome – Liechtenstein
VADUZ – Foreign Minister Dominique Hasler stayed in Rome today and yesterday for an inaugural visit to the Holy See and for a working meeting at the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Liechtenstein and the Holy See can look back on long-standing and good relationships, according to the statement from the Foreign Ministry on Thursday. Diplomatic relations between Liechtenstein and the Holy See have existed for decades. Along with more than 180 countries, Liechtenstein is one of the accredited embassies to the Holy See, which is considered to be one of the best networked institutions in the world.
As part of her inaugural visit, Foreign Minister Dominique Hasler was able to exchange ideas with Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher about the need for foreign policy cooperation and further strengthen the ties, as it is said. Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher has been Secretary for Relations with States in the Vatican State Secretariat since 2014. In this function he is considered the Vatican Foreign Minister.

At the meeting with Cardinal Michael Czerny, Undersecretary for the Department of Migrants and Refugees at the Holy See, the Foreign Minister could find out more about the international humanitarian activities of the Church.
At the Italian Foreign Ministry
During an exchange with a high-ranking representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Benedetto Della Vedova, the topics of joint engagement in the multilateral area, the presidency message from the Council of Europe and the double taxation agreement between Italy and Liechtenstein were explained. Italy will shortly take over the chairmanship of the Council of Europe and has signaled support for Liechtenstein’s chairmanship.
Personal meeting with the Pope
At the start of her visits, the Foreign Minister had the great honor of meeting Pope Francis in person in a general audience held by the Holy Father. According to the announcement, the Foreign Minister is convinced that solid cooperation with the Holy See is an important pillar for stability and peace.
