Sweden allows entry for vaccinated travelers from the US and several other third countries from next Friday
The Swedish authorities have decided to remove the entry ban for vaccinated travelers from the US in a reciprocal move, after the latter will soon open their borders to the vaccinated from 33 countries, including here Swedes.
In a press release published on October 28, the Swedish Ministry of Justice announced that travelers who hold vaccination certificates issued by US authorities will be exempted from the entry ban from next Friday, November 5.
“Sweden has close and good relations with the United States and cooperates on important issues in many areas. Travel between Sweden and the USA is therefore of great importance in many different ways, it says in the press release.
It further claims that since the United States plans to allow vaccinated travelers from the 26 Schengen area to enter its territory from 8 November, “It is therefore very important that vaccinated travelers from the USA can also travel to Sweden more easily. ”
The United States announced its decision to reopen its borders to travelers from the Schengen area, Ireland and the United Kingdom on 20 September. It has recently been revealed that the borders will be opened in the second week of November for all travelers who have been vaccinated with one of the vaccines approved by the World Health Organization (WHO).
With regard to the abolition of the entry ban, the Swedish government has also decided to recognize the vaccination certificates issued by the three islands below, and thereby allow entry for holders of the same:
- Guernsey
- island of man
- Jersey
“This complements the Government’s decision of 7 October on vaccine certificates issued in the United Kingdom, the Ministry of Justice explains in its press release.
On October 7, the Swedish government decided to allow entry for all travelers from the UK, including tourists, given that they have been vaccinated against the Corona virus. The requirements for quarantine and testing on arrival have also been removed for the same.
Since 24 September, vaccinated travelers from Albania, Andorra, the Faroe Islands, Israel, Morocco, Monaco and Panama have also been allowed to enter Sweden on the same terms as EU citizens.
On Thursday, the Swedish authorities also extended the entry ban to Sweden from countries outside and the EU / EEA, for which the entry ban has not been removed before, until 31 January 2022. The entry ban for travelers coming from countries within the EU / EEA has also been extended for those refuses to test for covid-19 and who has not been vaccinated against the virus nor has recovered from the disease.
