Honor: Honored personalities at the University of Innsbruck

University of Innsbruck in the top international field

Honorary doctorate in natural sciences

Ingeborg Hochmair made a special contribution to the development of Tyrol as a research location in 2012 by financing Endowed professorship for microelectronics and implantable systems at the Institute for Mechatronics. The atmospheric and finally climate sciences also belong to the primary research focus of the University of Innsbruck.
Honorary citizenships
Obtained one of the honorary citizenships Hermann Niedermayr (* 1955). It’s more classic philologist (Linguist and literary scholar; editor’s note) and has been teaching Greek and Latin since 1978/79 on Academic Gymnasium Innsbruck. As a bridge builder between school and university, Niedermayr has held courses at the University of Innsbruck for decades in addition to teaching at the school. In recognition of their special merits in the scientific and high-profile cooperation between Ambras Castle and the University of Innsbruck Veronika Sandbichler (* 1967) also the dignity of one Honorary citizen awarded. She has been since 2010 Director of the Ambras Castle Art History Museum in Innsbruck. As a graduate of the University of Innsbruck, she was in constant contact with her alma mater and continues to teach here to this day. In the anniversary year of the University of Innsbruck in 2019, thanks to the active support of Veronika Sandbichler, two large exhibition and art projects were realized.
Badge of honor
Jutta Wiesmann (* 1943) has been a member of the Board of Trustees of the Brenner Archive Research Institute a. die Granddaughter Ludwig von Fickers represents the family of the writer and editor of the Culture magazine “Der Brenner”, Namesake of the archive. She is particularly interested in the scientific work on Ludwig von Ficker and the Brenner Circle. As a token of recognition for her decades of honorary position in the service of the research institute, she received the honorary badge of the University of Innsbruck.
Inauguration and awards for students
As part of the honors, the Awards for the best student work (Awards for the best student work; editor’s note) for excellent Achievements by young researchers awarded at the University of Innsbruck. Andrea Auer, Yannick Back, Lisa Blasch, Alexander Erhard, Patrick Oswald, Victoria Reibenspiess and Tanja Vogler each received 1,000 euros, made available by the company MED-EL and the university.
