After the end of the Copa Elite Six Stage 3 group game, FURIA Esports and Team oNe have become the first two LATAM squads that have been confirmed to compete in Sweden Major.
Fantastic FURIA led by Fntzy
Diogo “Fntzy” Lima, the man of the moment in Brazil, was the group player’s best player after registering a SiegeGG rating of 1.55. He was the key to his team’s results, especially against Team Liquid and MIBR, where the 18-year-old recorded 24 deaths in both matches.
FURIA Esports completely dominated the group when they defeated their Brazilian neighbors Team Liquid and MIBR 7-0 and 7-2 respectively. In fact, the team only fought against Malvina’s Gaming, as the Argentines were 6-1 ahead at one point in the match. Still, the Brazilian side reacted appropriately and won the following seven rounds.
The statistics clearly show FURIA’s dominance over the rest, as each player on the team has a SiegeGG rating of over 1.1.
Triple draw in group B sends Team oNe to Sweden
During stages 1 and 2, there was never a draw in the final group game. Step 3, however, is the exception to the rule.
Team oNe, FaZe Clan and Ninjas in pajamas earned nine points because their only losses came in matches between the three sides – Team oNe fell to NiP, FaZe to oNe and NiP to FaZe. This meant that the difference between head and head would not be enough to separate them.
In this situation, the number of rounds won during the entire group game had the last word. This meant that oNe, with 26 rounds won, would finish at the top, with FaZe Clan finishing second (23) and NiP in third (22).
Malvinas shines in the hand of Paraguay’s star blk
Only one player could surpass Fntzy’s group game. It was not Lucca’s Paluh “Molina, the best player of 2020, nor was Mexico’s major MVP Juliano” Levy “Andrade. Playing among all these great personalities, it was the 18-year-old Richard “blk” Rodríguez who left the Brazilian fans off.
To give you some context, the Paraguayan player signed for Malvina Gaming at the beginning of the third stage. However, he could only play two matches when he was a minor until the penultimate match.
His only professional experience before competing in the Copa Elite Six was two South American championship games, against Infamous Gaming and Notorious Gaming.
The Paraguayan wonder ended the group game with a SiegeGG rating of 1.30, four tenths more than the second best ranked player in Malvinas Gaming. He also recorded 53 deaths, which placed him at the top of the crack statistics, just above Fntzy with 50.
Worst Mexican achievement in CES history
For the first time, the sub-region of Mexico leaves the tournament without a team among the top six. While Atheris Esports made it through the group stage in the first division, Fenix Esports did so in the second. None of them reached their goal.
Although it started with a huge victory over MIBR (7-5), Atheris was beaten by Malvinas Gaming the next day. The Argentines are Mexico’s terror, as they have now defeated them on four occasions out of five possible.
After their loss to the Argentine side, Atheris could not defeat FURIA Esports and Team Liquid.
At the same time, Fenix Esports could not repeat its previous result as the Mexicans lost all their matches, including their match against 9z Team – Argentina’s first ever victory in the Copa Elite Six.
Either NiP or Liquid will not be in Sweden, Malvinas can make history
The first quarterfinal game will feature FaZe Clan and Malvinas Gaming. The Argentines have made it through the group stage for the first time, so this will be the most important game of their lives.
However, Malvinas Gaming has never won against any Brazilian team. The Argentines have played 12 matches against Brazilian sides, lost 10 in regular time and two in overtime – both in this week’s Copa Elite Six.
Given that their opponent will be the FaZe Clan, who were unbeaten in BR6 for seven games in a row, Malvina’s Gaming is in a very difficult position.
It is also worth mentioning that FaZe Clan’s analyst is Cesar “Dark” Adriano, who coached the 9z Team during Stage 2 and had to study Malvina’s games.
The second quarter-final match will be a replay of the SI 2021 Grand Final, as Ninjas in Pajamas and Team Liquid will play for a place in Sweden Major.
Ninjas in pajamas have struggled throughout the third split as the team only won three matches out of nine possible. At the same time, a rejuvenated Team Liquid finished in second place despite their recent signings.
Since Ninjas in Pajamas is a Swedish organization, it would be overwhelming that the first international event they miss since 2019 was their home major.
