London [UK], 13 October (ANI): England lost points for just the second time in their World Cup qualifying campaign as they held on to a 1-1 draw with Hungary at Wembley Stadium on Tuesday.
Roland Sallai’s penalty in the 24th minute gave Hungary the lead and the first goal in five competitive meetings with England, only for the three Lions to respond 13 minutes later when John Stones equalized from an exquisite Phil Foden post.
England remain three points ahead of Poland at the Group I summit despite their 21 matches won in the home qualifiers ending; Marco Rossi’s men are six points and two positions shy of second place.
Alexander Isak made the difference when Sweden moved two points from Spain at the top of Group B. Sweden defeated Greece 2-0. Greece hit the post and the crossbar before Isak won a penalty, which Emil Forsberg controlled. Isaac then burst through a confused Greek defense to cut the other, before Pantelis Hatzidiakos was sent off late.
In Group F, Lyndon Dykes made her fourth World Cup qualifier in a row as Scotland pushed past Israel, while Todor Nedelev’s double in the second half helped Bulgaria recover against Northern Ireland, to keep the Lions in Group C battle.
Elsewhere, Andorra recorded their biggest win ever in their 3-0 away win over San Marino in Group I. (ANI)
