BBU Salzburg celebrates opening victory after a false start
The second division basketball team from Salzburg won against the Basket Flames from Vienna on Saturday with 62:53. Despite numerous failures, the Falken demonstrated great fighting spirit.
After the cup success over the Wörthersee Piraten, the BBU Salzburg also prevailed in the opening game of the 2nd basketball league. In the 62:53 victory over the Basket Flames, head coach Christian Ponz’s team got off to a false start in the Alpenstrasse sports hall. The first quarter clearly went to the guests from Vienna at 4:21. The home side fought their way back until half-time. The high leadership was awarded shortly before the break siren from the free throw line.
BBU pulled away after catching up in the final quarter
After the sides had been changed at 26:26, the Salzburg team quickly made up for it. Adrian Mitchell put his team in the front. The game weighed back and forth now. The BBU were only able to gain decisive advantages in the final quarter. After the Salzburg team had meanwhile been 32:37 behind, it went with a 43:41 lead in the final section. In this one pulled away immediately with another seven points in a row. The Viennese couldn’t get anywhere. Best thrower of the BBU War Center Rusmir Grosic with 14 points.
