A podcast tells the story of the anti-communist coup in San Marino
19 September 1957. An international intrigue to bring down the only Social-Communist-led government west of the Iron Curtain. Which was in San Marino. A ministerial podcast to tell the facts of Rovereta. From May 10, for 4 Mondays, on the submarine
San Marino, 19 September 1957. At 3 pm the two Captains Regent, the main office of the San Marino institutional apparatus, should be elected. That day a new majority, which appeared the previous day, shows up at the government building where the “Public Force”, with arms in hand, prevents them from entering.
Thus began the events of Rovereta, which will see San Marino at the center of an international intrigue.
Americans and Italians, with the threat of weapons and a military embargo, will bring down the only social-communist-led government west of the Iron Curtain which, despite the continuous boycotts, managed to resist from 1945 to 1957, winning all the elections of the small Republic.
In four episodes suspended between a spy film and a village party we will tell about the contacts of the Christian Democrats of San Marino with the vice president Richard Nixon, of the Italian government’s circle-botism and the resistance of the social-communist coalition led by Gino Giacomini, to understand how the motto of San Marino has passed in a stroke of the towel from “libertas” to “liber-tax”.
