Monegasque startups have their FabLAB

Last summer, MonacoTech commissioned its FabLAB – Manufacturing laboratory – tailor-made for startups to develop their processes and develop their prototypes.

Established in the Fontvieille district since 2017, MonacoTech now has a new string to its bow. Last July, the Principality’s incubator opened its FabLAB. A laboratory accessible to startups of the Monegasque accelerator to carry out their work in the fields of biology, shared health and electronics. The objective is not only to offer a space for experimentation and the manufacture of prototypes, but also to encourage project leaders to carry out, to pool their know-how, to possibly give rise to new ideas.

A collective tool to innovate

Divided into two parts – one dry, the other wet – the FabLAB and its equipment currently benefit three MonacoTech startups. Among them Coraliotech, one of the pillars of the incubator. This company founded by Rachid Benchaouir, associate researcher at the Monaco Scientific Center, specializes in marine biotechnologies. She has successfully created artificial coral cells and already has a patent. The objective is to produce in quantity so that they can be used by the cosmetics industry and by the pharmaceutical sector. Before reaching this stage of development, the Coraliotech team will spend a lot of time in the FabLAB in order to advance their experiments.

In the future, the laboratory should benefit many other entrepreneurs, besides MonacoTech has just launched a call for projects to allow new startups to join its support program.

To further enhance the advantage represented by this space dedicated to science and innovation, Nathalie Michet understood herself on site. Reporting.
