Legal abortion in San Marino, “unexpected result”

This is what the San Marino women, who in recent years have been forced to have abortions abroad and in secret, had asked. An unexpected result that took everyone by surprise. Especially those who believed that in the small state of Catholic tradition it was difficult to change things. Instead, it is they who rejoice, the women and men who have clamored for the popular referendum and who today have victory in their hands.

“We had a good feeling but 77% is really an extraordinary result,” he commented Karen Pruccoli, president of the Union of San Marino Women.

Now the ball passes to the Council of State which, having made any changes, will deposit the bill at the Bureau of the Great and General Council. “I think it is a theme that goes a little bit beyond politics, a very intimate, personal theme and therefore I believe that this aspect can also help in the drafting of a law that will see us involved in the next six months”, so Elena Tonnini, Secretary of State for Internal Affairs of San Marino.

Despite some contrary opinions, the majority of San Marino women speak of a long-awaited turning point. Especially the new generations, those who most of all contributed to the victory of the yes.
