Metro C does not run on part of the route. Replace the sleepers

DPP plans to replace a total of 510 wooden sleepers with concrete ones during this autumn’s closure. It will work in two places – on the 2nd track directly in the Vyšehrad station and in the line tunnel on the 1st track between the IP Pavlova and Muzeum stations. In addition, workers in both sections will also replace the original rails with new ones. There are a total of 6,359 sleepers in this section, of which more than a quarter (1,774) are already new concrete sleepers. Replacing sleepers is a long-term thing, DPP usually uses Easter for it, the beginning of the summer holidays and the autumn days off.

Replacing sleepers in the subway is hard manual work, as mechanization cannot be used as with a surface railway. In addition, the sleepers are concreted in the subway and cannot be pulled out from the side. Both rails and the third, supply rail must be dismantled, the sleeper cut into three parts and broken off. Because they have an irregular shape, the bed needs to be adjusted manually for the new concrete sleeper.

As for the replacement of sleepers on line C, the transport company is about halfway through, wooden sleepers were installed in the oldest part of the Kačerov – Florenc metro station. They are also located on route A, but DPP is currently carrying out exchanges without exclusions at night due to the different security equipment.
